Legends of Rock and Roll
The Marvelettes & plus/more!
ANNULÉ
With The Marvelettes, Freddy BOOM BOOM Cannon, Diamond Dave Somerville, and special guests The Tommy C Band

THE MARVELETTES
The original Marvelettes occupied an esteemed place in the history of American popular music as the group that caused Motown Records to change the label's focus from single, bluesy soul artists to a smooth, orchestrated harmonic sound. Starting with Please Mr. Postman, the group's very first chart-topping single in 1961, a new crossover pop/soul genre was formulated, which defined Motown for many years and was to go down in history as the "Motown Sound". The group has been inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and has received the Pioneer Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation. In 2005, two of the group's most successful recordings "Please Mr. Postman" and "Don't Mess with Bill" earned million-selling Gold singles from the Recording Inudstry Association of America. In 2012, The Marvelettes were nominated for induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2013, they were inducted into the R&B Music Hall of Fame.

Encompassing numerous Marvelettes songs, the current show also spans the entire array of the Motown sound, coupled with great American standards.

FREDDY "BOOM BOOM" CANNON
No oldies collection would be complete without Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon's thrilling "Palisades Park", with its carnival sound effects, swooping organ, relentless driving beat, and, of course, Freddy's inimitable holler. With this song and his other Top Ten smashes, such as "Tallahassee Lassie," and "Way Down Yonder In New Orleans," Freddy became a big star in the 60s and he also holds the record for the most appearances on Dick Clark's American Bandstand - 115, to be exact. When, in the summer of 1959, "Tallahassee Lassie" hit the Top Ten, Freddy commenced a musical career that would span 4 decades. Freddy Cannon enjoys a very loyal fan base and is a true believer - a rocker to the bone - who puts his heart and infectious enthusiasm into his vocals and performances. Freddy's irrepressible showmanship always brings his audience to their feet.

"DIAMOND" DAVE SOMERVILLE
“Diamond” Dave Somerville was the solo lead singer on The Diamonds’ “Little Darlin’,” one of the seminal songs of rock ‘n’ roll, and classics such as “Why Do Fools Fall In Love,” “Silhouettes” and “The Stroll.” Sharing stages, dressing rooms and bus tours with rock ‘n’ roll pioneers is the stuff of which legends are born. Dave Somerville has toured with Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, The Drifters, Buddy Holly, Paul Anka, The Everly Brothers, Little Richard, Roy Orbison, Fats Domino and many more.

“Diamond” Dave’s current act is full of vignettes of the late and great, as well as his own 16 hits, plus material from a vast repertoire tailored to his audience. His rich baritone voice and incredible four-octave range remain unmistakable today.

Les Paul was right when he said, “Dave has a unique God-given voice...a distillation of Elvis and Bing.”
