The Montreal West Operatic Society Finds its French Roots.
This spring, the MWOS is making “Une grande démarche” in staging the first full-length classical operetta or opéra bouffe, Orphée aux Enfers/ Orpheus in the Underworld by Jacques Offenbach.
“We decided to do a bilingual production, and at the same time, branch out into the works of one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s French contemporaries and inspiration, Jacques Offenbach,” said Elena Cerrolaza, Mo-West resident and the MWOS set designer. “It is an exciting time for all of us because of the extraordinary talent of so many francophone and bilingual performers who have joined this production.”
